KOHALA COAST, Hawaii: Mauna Lani Resort is pleased to be the home of one of Hawaii’s most prestigious golf events, the Hawaii State Open, to be held for the 2nd year at the famous Francis H. I’i Brown North and South Courses from December 13-15, 2013. The event opens with a PRO-AM on the South Course on December 12th.
The Hawaii State Open, presented by Aloha Section PGA, is traditionally the last tournament of the year. First played in 1920, it was established as the ultimate golf championship for professionals and amateurs with the purpose of determining the best golfer in the islands.
Director of Golf at Mauna Lani Resort, Tom Sursely, said that “we are excited to be the home of the Hawaii State Open through 2014. It’s a fitting partnership given our rich history in the sport and being the home of the Senior Skins for more than 10 years.”
Mauna Lani Resort courses are named in honor of Francis H. I’i. Brown. Known as “Mr. Golf”, for his amateur accomplishments in Hawaii, California and Japan, Brown acquired in the land in the 1930’s. Mauna Lani Resort acquired the land in 1972 and the original Course opened in 1981. Later called the property his private retreat which he would share with many famous guests during their visits to Hawaii.
The Francis H I’ i. Brown North and South Courses are stunning design masterpieces built around numerous archeological sites including trails, fishponds and ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs.
The Aloha Section PGA anticipates a full field of professionals from across the state,U.S.mainland and other countries that will be in attendance for the event. The flights will be a Men’s Open Flight (Professionals & Amateurs) Men’s A Flight, Women’s Open (Professionals & Amateurs) and Men’s Senior (Professionals & Amateurs).
