MAUNA LANI FRANCIS H. I‘I BROWN GOLF COURSE
Mauna Lani Resort's two championship golf courses, the Francis H. I‘i Brown North and South, offer challenging experiences for novice and professional golfers alike.
The North and South are masterpieces of design, each strikingly different, yet equally challenging, with both placed firmly among the world's finest golfing meccas. The North and South courses are stunning examples of what environmentally-sensitive golf course architecture can achieve. Nelson & Haworth ensured the thoughtful preservation of numerous archeological sites throughout the courses – trails, fishponds and ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs.
Mauna Lani also played host to the nationally televised Senior Skins Game golf tournament from 1990-2000. Mauna Lani Resort was also rated “One of the Top Ten Green Resorts” by Golf magazine for 2008-2009. Golf Week rates it one of the Best Courses to Play in Hawaii 2010-2014.

The South Course is built on the 16th-century Kaniku lava flow, a relatively young flow, snaking through stark, rugged a‘a lava. Two striking ocean holes #7 and #15 are signature holes of Mauna Lani South. The over-the-water, dramatic No. 15 is already well-known as one of the most photographed golf holes in the world, and the newer No. 7 is a picturesque par-3 framed by the blue Pacific Ocean on the left, a salt-and-pepper sand dune on the right, and back dropped by a feathery grove of kiawe (mesquite) trees.
The North Course is built on a lava bed much older than the Kaniku flow. Overlaying the rugged brown pahoehoe lava flow, the North emphasizes rolling fairways and kiawe forests, which often come into play. A 230-acre protected archeological district lies on the northern edge of the North Course, while feral goats roam the entire course, cropping the grass and providing a unique neutral hazard. The par-3 No. 17 is the signature hole on this course, a series of elevated tees form a natural amphitheater with the green at the base of a lava bowl.
Mauna Lani Resort has the only Hawaii’s only Keiki Golf Course in Hawaii. The nine-hole walking course is perfect for junior golfers, beginning players and families. For juniors with limited to no golf experience, the resort’s professional staff offers customized lessons to accelerate level of play.
