Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows is an eco-friendly hotel in Hawaii. With a focus on sustainable actions and green living, this Hawaii eco resort emphasizes the importance of environmental preservation on the beautiful islands of Hawaii.
Since 1989, Mauna Lani has received juvenile honu (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles) from Oahu’s Sea Life Park, and has raised them in the saltwater ponds of the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. The honu are cared for until they grow to a size and weight that are deemed appropriate for release into the wild. This release occurs every July 4th at the ocean’s edge fronting the hotel.
On Monday, July 4, 2017 the honu will be gathered in the morning from the Honu Ponds and they will be paraded to the beachfront for the release. A welcome ceremony will kick-off the event followed by the release. This annual celebration honors the honu and helps educate the public about the Hawaiian green sea turtle. Families are invited to join the celebration!
Mauna Lani Resort was named one of the world's Top Luxury Eco Friendly Beach Destinations by Condé Nast Traveler. Condé Nast Traveler also recognized Mauna Lani Resort's green sea turtle program as an ecotourism attraction. The resort was selected as one of only ten golf resorts in the world for the first-ever Green Golf Award as a leader in environmental stewardship by Golf Magazine.
